Monty’s Eurovision Countdown 2013 Part 11 - ESTONIA Et Usu Saaks Alguse by Birgit Öigemeel

Singing for Estonia last year Ott Lepland was a big hit with many fans in more ways than one. Several fans of a particular persuasion noted how impressive Ott’s box was. His voice box I mean, of course, but let’s not be coy here, there was as much interest in how well he appeared to fill out his trousers as there was in how well he hit his big note. Having placed 6th with his ballad our girl Birgit, a former Estonian Idol winner, is aiming to follow suit. She’s got her work cut out for her though as there are 5 female ballads competing with her to qualify. She’s singing in Estonian, which may ultimately be her unique selling point, or be to her detriment. It’s pleasant to hear but only moments later I’m left with no memory of how it goes, which is never really a good thing for a song in a competition. A strong vocal performance with good staging could help this sneak through, but at the moment I feel it’s fighting in an overcrowded ring and has to punch in too many directions to make any impact, which it doesn’t have the resource to do.

My score: 5 points

Monty x
